There is nothing quite like the thrill of reeling in a pacific salmon. The fishing grounds are only 10-20 minutes offshore, so we can maximize your time on the rods. We fish around the many small islands of the Ballenas-Winchelsea archipelago, providing protection and calmer seas for your comfort. Depending on the time of year, we can also jig for bottom feeders such as lingcod and rockfish, drop crab traps, or prawns traps on full day charters. Haida Gold is outfitted with premium fishing equipment, and your charter includes all bait & tackle, and cleaning of your catch. We welcome all ages and experience levels.

Our four hour fishing charters depart at 7am, 1pm, or catch the “night bite” to coincide with sunset. Six hour or eight hour charters depart anytime before 10am. The maximum number of passengers for fishing charters is five, so that there is adequate room to maneuver and to ensure everyone gets a turn at the rods. If you have children under 10 years old in your group we may be able to accommodate more than five.

Anyone who wishes to participate in fishing must have a fishing licence prior to departure, including children (free under 16yrs). If you want to keep your salmon catch, you will also need to have the add-on salmon conservation stamp. You must bring a printed copy of your licence with you, or be able to log into your account on a smartphone to record your catch in real time. You can purchase your licence and stamp online here.

All species are subject to Department of Fisheries & Oceans regulations on open seasons, retention, size limits and daily catch limits.

Chinook (Spring/King) salmon – peak season April through September; winter Chinook October through March. Non-retention April 1st through July 14th

Coho (Silver) salmon – peak season July through September. Open June 1-December 31st. Retention of hatchery marked only.

Pink salmon – run is on odd years

Lingcod – open May 1st to September 30th

Rockfish – open May 1st to September 30th

Dungeness crab – traps can be dropped on any fishing charter (takes an hour out of fishing time)

Red rock crab – traps can be dropped on any fishing charter (takes an hour out of fishing time)

BC spot prawns – traps can be dropped on full day charters only. Not available May through August
